Melissa Hart, John Boehner: Leaders

Melisssa Hart with John Boehner (R, Ohio, Minority Leader) in Pittsburgh area on Friday. Former Congresswoman Hart is fighting to regain her congressional seat against Jason Altmire. It's been called "the country's most important congressional race." I've written several columns about Altmire, a full-time mudslinger and an individual who systematically misled voters in the 4th Congressional District of Pennsylvania, especially on the subject of Iraq. If you'd like to learn more about how you can support Melissa Hart, please visit her site at: http://peoplewithhart.com/.
I'll be writing next week about how Altmire's campaign is being financed by radical elements in American politics. If you'd like a sneak peek, go to open secrets.org and type in the name "Altmire."
HOUSE LEADER JOHN BOEHNER JOINS HART
TO AGAIN CALL ON ALTMIRE TO END HIS SILENCE

Cranberry Township, PA – Today, former Congresswoman Melissa Hart was joined by Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) for a press conference to call on Jason Altmire to end his silence and condemn the remarks made by Barack Obama one week ago.

“I find it disturbing that Jason Altmire has continued to stay silent regarding these insulting remarks. As a life long resident of Western Pennsylvania, I know the people here are proud of their values, families and faith. We certainly don’t cling to religion and sportsmen traditions out of bitterness,” said Melissa Hart.

“With each passing day, it has becomes more clear that Jason Altmire pays more attention to his national political profile than his constituents’ concerns. Governor Rendell and other top Democrats have rightly criticized Obama’s remarks,” said Hart.

Congressman Boehner added, “It’s time for Barack Obama to apologize to voters here in Pennsylvania and across the Midwest. And it’s time for his supporters in Congress to defend their constituents and denounce Obama’s patronizing rhetoric.”

Boehner continued, “Midwest voters aren’t ‘bitter;’ they’re for freedom. Freedom from higher taxes. Freedom to practice their faith. Freedom to exercise their Constitutional rights,” Boehner concluded. “That Obama and Altmire don’t understand that shows how out of touch they are.”

Altmire has been seen at many Barack Obama campaign events across Western Pennsylvania, including the event where Senator Bob Casey endorsed Barack Obama.

The only statement Altmire has made since the “bitter” remarks about Obama was in last Sunday’s Washington Post, saying "the more people get to know him, the more they like him."

You call Melissa Hart a leader, but you give no examples of her leadership. This is the third time I have asked you for examples of her leadership and accomplishments while in office and you have yet to answer with anything other than insults.

Here is one example I remember. An issue for her constituents in Allegheny County was saving North Park Lake. She talked about it over and over again, but did nothing. Jason Altmire talked about it once: He had with him a biologist to explain why the lake is dying, an officer with the Army Corp of Engineers to explain how it would be saved and a signed agreement with the County to make it happen.

Is that an example of “Jason Altmire paying more attention to his national political profile than his constituents concerns” as Melissa Hart said in the press release? Maybe she thought of saying that, because her ignoring her constituents concerns was one of the reasons she lost two years ago.

I have had Google news alerts set up for several years for everyone that represents me from my state representatives up to U.S. senator. This is how I found your blog. When Melissa Hart was in congress, I rarely received anything about her. Most of the news alerts I received were about Melissa Joan Hart, the actress. The few alerts I did receive about her involved Tom Delay. It seems like every day Jason Altmire is in the news for something he did to help improve the lives of Americans including children, veterans, seniors and hunters.

I gained a lot of respect for Rick Santorum in how he handled his defeat with dignity and grace and is continuing his fight in his own way. I will never forget how sore of a loser Melissa Hart was and how her bitterness continues to come out in every interview. I had a lot of respect for her, but not anymore for how she handled her defeat. Don’t kid yourself into thinking that the voters don’t see that and think lesser of her, because of it. I expect her to get crushed no matter how John McCain does in our area.

By the way, to answer a question of yours from a prior posting, the smug Iraqi leader Jason Altmire and the bipartisan congressional delegation met with in Iraq was Deputy Prime Minister Salam al-Zubaie. I guess the Iraqi’s don’t care much for the Republicans either. I should have mentioned that it was the second highest ranking member of the Iraqi government and he met with the entire delegation. I am sorry if I caused any confusion.

4/21/08 – Steve, you wrote on April 17th that but Altmire is in a "state of mortal sin" in regard to his vote on embryonic stem cell research and that he is a “cafeteria Catholic”. However the Catholic Church is also against capital punishment in virtually all cases. See http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/angel/procon/popestate.html Are you also against capital punishment? First, you are against taking action against prostitution and now you agree with the church in its stand against capital punishment. You seem to be straying from traditional conservative values, which makes sense if you support a fiscally liberal candidate like Melissa Hart.
