Update: Scott Brown's candidacy for the U.S. Senate in Massachusetts is getting a tremendous response from the online community (i.e., people like you). They're raising a significant amount of money -- and adding many volunteers. Please go to Scott's web site to see how you can help him in this critical race. (The special election will be on Jan. 19.)

Recommendations for Challengers Running for Office

I recommend that all challengers gather their long "lists" of volunteers and financial supporters . . . and that they hold as many "Town Halls" as possible, whether they have ten participants or a thousand. They need to talk soon to every person who has regular contacts with others . . . including barbers, hair dressers, insurance salespeople, cops, principals, ministers, and others. They also need to do something most people hate: ask everybody for money, including very small donations. They should rely more on radio than on TV -- drive-time and talk radio. Radio is inexpensive, TV isn't.

A candidate to keep an eye on: Les Phillip in Alabama's 5th congressional district (Huntsville area). Les is a Black conservative running against Parker Griffith, who recently switched to the Republican caucus. He could use your help.

Black Conservatives: Obama Endangers County

Bulletin Regarding Gov. Sarah Palin (who always puts her hand on her heart when the National Anthem plays):

First, the founder of Race42008.com, Kavon W. Nikrad, has backed Gov. Palin for VP. This is one of our biggest endorsements yet, and you can read why I think it is important on the blog. Second, several supporters have emailed to tell me that, according to CNN, the Governor will be featured on Monday's Glenn Beck TV program (7-9 PM EST on CNN Headline News). Details have not yet been posted, and I have received several differing tips; so I don't know that exact nature or subject matter of the feature (I'm hoping it includes an interview). I will post details on the blog if and when I find out more. Otherwise, just be sure to tune into Glenn Beck tomorrow night.-- Adam Brickley Founder, "Draft Sarah Palin for Vice President"palinforvp.blogspot.com

"Barack, tell us how you really feel." (Barack Obama, Bill Richardson, Hillary Clinton, and Mrs. Tom Harkin in Iowa)

"Obama plans to gut U.S. defenses."

If you want to know what's going on in the continuing debate over America's future, it's a good idea to avoid the national media, which -- on the whole -- remains as clueless as ever. Recently, some of the Black Conservatives (Yahoo Group) have been condemning Barack Obama's weakness when it come to defending America from its enemies. Frankly, Obama doesn't seem to recognize that the U.S. has enemies. Here are recent comments and links from Black Conservatives "Westloop" and "GhostPuppy911."

westloop@yahoo.com said the following:

In 2007, Barack Obama spoke before the Caucus for Priorities, which proposes re-routing defense spending to social causes.

He promised, "As president, I will end misguided defense policies and stand withCaucus for Priorities in fighting special interests in Washington. First, I'll stop spending $9 billion a month in Iraq. I'm the onl major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning -- and as president, I will end it.

"Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending.I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems. I will not weaponize space. I will slow our development of future combat systems, and I will institute an independent defense priorities board to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending.

"Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal, I will not develop new nuclear weapons; I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material, and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off hair-trigger alert and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals. You know where I stand."

In other words, Obama plans to gut US defenses. If the US ceases to defend itself, it will soon be overwhelmed; then who else would step-up to defend the world against Totalitarianism? France?

Dems: Poor Always with Them?

NOTE: If you're looking for the explosive column about Teddy Kennedy (now in the hospital with stroke symptoms) conspiring with the Soviet KGB in the 1980s, you need to scroll down one column. That piece has generated a great deal of interest, and I hope you'll bring it to the attention of your friends and political allies.

On my blog focused on Hillary Supporters, I have several columns on how the Democrats' "Old Boys Network" (led by Howard Dean and Barack Obama) is unfairly denying Sen. Clinton the nomination.

The following is from "LargeBear" (Randy) a proud member of the large (and growing) "Black Conservatives" group on Yahoo:

"Quote of the week from Charles Barkley ( for those of you that don't know, he's a former basketball NBA Allstar that is a sports commentator and should run for office with this in-sight)."

"Poor People have been voting for Democrats for the last 50 years, and they are still poor."

My comments:

"Randy, the poor people voting for Democrats in the vain hope that things will improve reminds me of two of my favorite quotes:

"The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over in the hope that it will somehow produce different results." and,

"Sometimes all of life seems a preparation for something that never happens." (W. B. Yeats, Irish poet)

A truth you won't hear from Obama or his allies: If a political party has a solid hold on a certain voting bloc, the last thing it wants to see is that group somehow disappear (i.e., in this case, have the poor get "un-poor").

One of my problems with Obama is that he won't level with us about his own wealth -- $5 million-plus from book deals in the last several years. His tax plans seems designed to ensure that very few Americans will have the opportunities he did to accumulate wealth. (Note: Obama's wife, Michelle, made $300,000-plus per year doing something called "community outreach."

LIBERTARIANS SHOULD BACK MCCAIN

Eric Dondero, an important writer and radio talk show host, asked me to write a piece on why libertarians -- believers in economic, social, and political liberty -- should support John McCain. Eric printed the following yesterday on his blog (http://libertarianrepublican.blogspot.com/).
Why Libertarians Should Support John McCain

It appears likely the next President of the U.S. will be either John Sidney McCain or Barack Hussein Obama. As good a man as Bob Barr is, he will not become President in 2009 – or any other year.

When it comes down to actually voting, the vast majority of Libertarians will reject the more liberal candidate (Obama) – and vote for the more conservative one (McCain). That’s because Libertarians reject the liberal narrative and generally accept the conservative one.

George Will recently described the liberal narrative as portraying “most Americans [as] victims of this or that sinister elite or impersonal force – and are not content to cope with life’s complexities without government supervision.” http://www.townhall.com/columnists/GeorgeWill/2008/04/13/fooling_ourselves_into_entitlements

That nanny-state-narrative is completely at variance with the libertarian view of life.

What is the conservative narrative? Here’s how “Lexington,” a super writer for The Economist (and a libertarian) describes it: “American conservatives tend to believe that if you work hard and play by the rules, you can succeed. This makes them more optimistic than liberals, more likely to feel in control of their lives and, therefore, happier.”

Conservative is not exactly the same thing as libertarian, but the two are compatible, as William F. Buckley, Jr. found 50-plus years ago when he staffed the National Review with a combination of economic libertarians and social conservatives. In contrast, liberalism, the friend of Big Government, generally is the polar opposite of libertarianism.

If you listen to Barack Obama (and Hillary Clinton) on the campaign trail, you hear some scary things. They portray “too many Americans’ as one step away from economic and social disaster. They see as people badly in need of major assistance – their assistance.

John McCain, imperfect as he may be, sees a very different America. It’s the same country whose liberties he was willing to give his life for in Viet Nam. We may not agree with him on every issue, but we can’t disagree that a love for liberty is at the central core of this man’s being.

Even Bill Clinton has said of McCain: “He’s given everything he has to his country – except his life.” President Clinton has never spoken truer words.

In contrast to McCain, Obama essentially portrays America as something resembling Matthew Arnold’s “Dover Beach,” where “ignorant armies clash by night.” As “Lexington describes Obama’s world-view, America is “a coalition of groups that define themselves as victims of social and economic forces, and . . . [where] its leaders encourage people to feel helpless and aggrieved . . .”

If Obama becomes President, we would become a society of “victims,” all of us clamoring for the government to bail us out of our misery. That would be a disaster not only for libertarians, but for all Americans.

I hope all libertarians do the right thing: voting for John McCain. Also, ask your friends and family members to do the same thing. The future of liberty in this society depends on free people standing up and supporting a man who has devoted his entire life to defending American values and liberties. John McCain is the right man for our cause.

Steve Maloney is a writer and political activist living in a small town near Pittsburgh, PA. He’d like to inform Senator Obama that he is not now – and never has been – “bitter.” He blogs at: http://stevemaloneygop.blogspot.com/.

Obama, Clinton Flunk Economics 101

Lorin and Randy, two members of the Black Conservatives Group on Yahoo have responded to the “economic plans” (if they deserve that term) of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Here are their reactions, followed by mine. They explain their sophisticated points simply and compellingly.

Lorin says: Raising taxes is bad for economic growth. It reduces the capacity of individuals or companies to spend, save or invest. These activities are critical for job creation, business formation, innovation, and risk taking. As a result, Obama has recently begun to hedge about his plan to roll back Bush's individual income tax cuts for those making over $200K, in light of the economic malaise / recession. He is now saying that he may not insist that they be rolled back.He has blinked. There is nothing like an economic downturn to test the validity of ones professed public policy prescriptions. If raising taxes on the "rich" indeed was a low risk strategy with negligible negative economic repercussions, Obama would be sticking to his guns.If Obama thinks 1+1 = 3 then he should stick to that nonsensical view irrespective of the economic climate. In fact, we know, 1 + 1 = 2. All day, every day.The same math is true of his proposals to remove the cap on income subject to social security taxes, make companies pay income taxes at the US rate (2nd or 3rd highest among developed countries) rather than the foreign rate, roll back Bush's reduction in taxes dividends, and sympathy for fellow math wizard Charlie Rangel's proposal to raise taxes on carried interests and capital gains.I remain supportive of Obama's quest for the nomination, but not for the Presidency. His economic and tax policies don't add up.

LJC (Lorin J. Crenshaw)

Randy says: Obama has no workable method for fixing the Social Security mess, since raising SS tax will not cure the long-term shortfall. This failure is ESPECIALLY harmful if the U.S. allows all the 30 million illegal aliens to collect Social Security benefits, including their older relatives (who come here under "family reunification" plans) who have never paid a penny into the system. Even the illegals who have worked in the U.S. often have contributed no taxes (wish I could have done that!) because their wages have been paid in cash.Generally, private retirement accounts can be created at a 3-4% real growth rate, compared to 0-1% for Social Security. For blacks especially, the Social Security system is a form of theft, since any given black worker is statistically likely to die several years sooner after retirement, so he/she does not collect as much in benefits as Asians/Caucasians who typically live several years longer. What is needed is some form of personally owned retirement account, so that if a black wage-earner dies earlier than his asian/white counterpart, the accumulated retirement fund can be passed on to his/her children, thus keeping the money in the family for education, home-buying, bill-paying or just enjoyment. The way things now work, the benefits end with death, and the money is returned to the SS pool to benefit other workers, or even worse, someone who may not deserve it at all.I am not saying that we should scrap the SS system entirely, since some people are attached to it and feel that only government provides stability. If those people want to continue with the current system, they must have the option to do so.

Randy

My response: Randy and Lorin show why this is one of the best groups (Black Conservatives) on the Internet. In one sense, national economics really is about making one plus one equal more than two in that it's about creating new wealth. It's not just about taking money from one guy's pocket and putting it another person's, which is the "economic plan" of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. That’s called the "zero sum" game. In the 1960s, President John F. Kenney made a sharp cut in taxes (as Reagan did later), with all sorts of people saying it would reduce tax revenues, etc. In fact, it did just the opposite, leading to very strong growth and HIGHER tax revenues. Well, there aren't any Democrats around like Kennedy (including the one named Ted) anymore. Hillary Clinton gives her big "economic" speech, and it means she would like to take your money to bail out people who bought houses they can't afford. Punish the people who made good decisions -- and reward the people who made bad ones. In her view and Barack's it's not one plus one but one minus one. The Moveon.org types who can't stand America just love it. If Clinton and Obama hired Randy and Lorin as their economic advisors they might be worth voting for. But don't quit your days jobs, Randy and Lorin, because those calls won’t come. .

Lloyd Marcus: Important Black Conservative

This good-looking young man is Lloyd Marcus, who's now grown up to be a thoughtful spokesman for American conservatives of African descent. This weekend (Saturday) I'll be printing Lloyd's autobiographical snippet ("Confessions") about growing up in "the projects" in Baltimore -- and the influence his parents had on him. Lloyd is a frequent contributor to one of the best groups on Yahoo, the "Black Conservatives." Be sure to visit this site on Saturday/Sunday.
On the Black Conservatives (generally pro-McCain) Yahoo Group, there's been a vigorous debate about what the Democratic "Superdelegates" (party bosses and bigwigs) will do.

Here's what one Black conservative said: "The superdelegates will not override the will of the voters unless Obama is in jail. They will not let themselves in for a civil war byoverruling a black man who is beloved by the young by going over theheads of the electorate and naming the candidate that lost theprimaries as the nominee."

Here's the response of another Black conservative: "I beg to differ. What is the use of the superdelegates if they can't vote independently? Also, dont discount the Clinton machine; they will find a way to get the superdelegates into their pockets. Furthermore, say if obama gets the [Superdelegate] vote. It's not a big deal because there is no way he will win the general election; his base is firmly intact; however, the independent vote will swing toward Mccain.
There is absolutely no way independent voters will vote for a man who doesnt see the necessity of leaving a virulently racist church and speaking boldly against the anti-American propaganda exhibited in that church.

To take things one step further, if the superdelegates do give the nomination to Hillary, then many Black Dems. will simply stay at home believing that the black candidate was shafted by the white Dems. As a result, the independents, once again, will not vote for the Dem's. nominee because they do not like hillary. Either way, the Republicans will win the general election.
The only candidate who has the chance of securing the independent vote is Mccain. So, it's the GOp in '08.

BLACK CONSERVATIVES DENOUNCING OBAMA

In recent days, many Black Conservatives have been criticizing Barack Obama and demanding that he come clean on where he agrees with Rev. Jeremiah Wright -- and where he disagrees.
Today, on the Black Conservatives Yahoo site, a member named Randy said the following:

"There's a very simple reason why Obama's pastor is a more important issue than Clinton's infidelity or McCain's thieving wife.It is Obama himself who has called Pastor Wright 'my mentor.'"

"That necessarily incorporates both moral and intellectual guidance. Obama has actually admitted in books and interviews that he has relied heavily on Pastor Wright's moral and intellectual advice.

Even regarding the central issue of running for President, why would Pastor Wright approve unless he felt that Obama would do what is 'politically correct'" Given Pastor Wright's questionable judgement and patriotism (to put it mildly), those are issues at least worth considering seriously."

"It cannot be simply ignored. It will not go away, unless Obama can provide a thorough explanation."

--Randy

Unlike Barack Obama's campaign, John McCain's is very much on the move. Recent polling data shows that he's ahead in two critical "Blue" states, Pennsylvania (where I live) and Michigan. He's also ahead in the nation as a whole.
